Harrods.com Using Scene7 On Demand to Bring In-store Experience Online

Leading UK Luxury Retailer to utilize Scene7’s hosted “self-serve” rich media platform for its e-commerce website


KNIGHTSBRIDGE, LONDON and NOVATO, CA — June 15, 2005 — Harrods.com, the website of the World’s most luxurious department store is an “On Demand” customer of US-based Scene7®, the market leader in automated rich media solutions for the web, email and print. Harrods.com is using Scene7 On Demand, (S7OD) a hosted rich media platform, to add dynamic zoom, re-sizing, layering, color swatching and eCatalogs – driving sales and enhancing the shopping experience for its online customers. Harrods eCatalog goes live today with the dynamic imaging features coming online over the next few weeks.

Harrods.com will provide online customers multiple product views paired with the ability to zoom in on specific detail, similar to the way they would inspect merchandise in its well-known Knightsbridge store. Scene7’s dynamic zoom gives customers enhanced visual information, allowing them to inspect fine details and the quality of merchandise to help them make a purchase decision, while reducing the likelihood of a return once they receive their order.

Scene7’s dynamic re-sizing has automated the image production process for Harrods.com, which enables them to reduce associated time and costs by 70%. Scene7 dynamically generates unlimited derivatives from single master images, reducing the total number of images Harrods.com needs to manage, while drastically reducing time to market for website updates.

Harrods.com created their own online versions of their summer catalogs using Scene7’s eCatalog solution. Scene7’s customizable eCatalogs allow Harrods online customers to shop in a familiar, easy-to-use format – customers can flip pages, zoom in on product details, search via brand or product, and purchase items directly from the eCatalog, allowing Harrod’s to achieve greater reach and exposure of its print materials while driving sales to its online store.
