Challenges:
· Offer real estate agents and homeowners a tool to instantly upload and share photos of homes for sale
· Create seamless, automatic process for normalizing and resizing home images uploaded by users
· Ensure user-added photos meet site standards and requirements

Zillow.com launched in early 2006 with a mission of providing cutting-edge tools and information to help consumers make smarter real estate decisions. Zillow has created a Web page for almost every home in the country, with free and instant valuations called "Zestimates," free postings of homes for sale by agents or homeowners, and "Make Me Move" prices added by homeowners. One of the most-visited real estate Web sites, Zillow was the only online company named by Advertising Age Magazine to its 2006 "Marketing 50" list of the most powerful consumer brands.

Best Practices:
Zillow.com™ uses Scene7 On-Demand to enable real estate agents and homeowners to instantly upload and share photos of homes for sale on its Web site.  Leveraging Scene7’s rich media platform, images uploaded by Zillow’s online community are automatically formatted and resized to ensure the consistency and high quality required to showcase homes online.

All home imagery presented on Zillow.com is dynamically sized and served by Scene7 On-Demand servers that generate and deliver unlimited derivatives from high-quality single master images and simple URL commands to the servers. Scene7 On-Demand’s broad dynamic imaging capabilities also include the ability to quickly zoom and pan on high-resolution product details, providing enhanced visual information.  With Scene7, companies like Zillow are able to speed time to market and drastically reduce image production costs while offering consumers a superior online experience. Additionally, when modifications are made to any page template, images can be converted automatically to the new sizes with a simple change to the URL command embedded in the new page template, which results in huge time and production savings with redesigns.

Results:
Since Zillow launched its expanded offering to allow agents and homeowners to post homes for sale, and owners to publish their “Make Me Move™” price on its site, for free, nearly 70 thousand homes have been posted on Zillow.com. Most of these homes include multiple photos.

“Our goal is to provide consumers with tools, information and data to help them become smarter about real estate. User-generated content, like photos, is a rich part of our database,” said Jorrit Van der Meulen, vice president of partner relations at Zillow. “Agents and homeowners who post homes for sale can easily upload an unlimited number of pictures that become immediately available with their postings. Scene7 enables us to seamlessly automate this process so all images uploaded are instantly standardized to the requirements of our site.”
