Founded in 1986 and headquartered in Cheyenne, WY, Sierra Trading Post specializes in casual and outdoor clothing, footwear, home furnishings, and accessories. The company purchases name-brand overstocks and closeouts and sells to its customers at substantial discounts. Sierra Trading Post offers its products through three main selling channels: three retail stores, six mail order catalog titles, and its online store, SierraTradingPost.com. Sierra Trading Post was looking to enhance the visual representation of its products online and improve its image management and web production process.

Sierra Trading Post has implemented Scene7’s On-Demand hosted rich media platform to add dynamic zoom, re-sizing, and color swatching across its e-commerce website.

“We needed an easy way to allow customers to see our products in detail as we carry fine woolens like tweeds, heathers, and a lot of leather goods,” said Mark Richardson, Creative Services Director for Sierra Trading Post. “We also wanted to be able to show our products in every available color, and the amount of items and colors we carry made it impractical to photograph them all. We perform all of our photography in-house, so it was very important for us to be able to control our production and publishing process.”

The process of generating and delivering website imagery from Scene7’s On-Demand network is simple and cost-effective. “We simply upload any number of product images and place them in the proper folder, then specify which images to push to the live servers,” said Richardson.

Scene7’s Dynamic Imaging allows Sierra Trading Post’s online customers to zoom quickly and interactively on high-resolution product images, providing enhanced visual information and an interactive shopping experience. According to Richardson, “Scene7’s free-form zoom is automatically provided for every image, and with Scene7’s color swatching, we can generate every available color option from one single master image, avoiding significant additional photography costs.”

Sierra Trading Post is also using Scene7’s dynamic re-sizing, increasing the number of product views on its site eliminating the costly manual production and slashing the number of images under management. Scene7 dynamically generates and delivers unlimited derivatives from single master images, streamlining manual production processes and reducing time to market – enabling Sierra Trading Post to concentrate on delivering an enhanced online shopping experience for its customers.

Results:
Scene7’s On-Demand hosted rich media platform is contributing to an increase in overall revenues for Sierra Trading Post of 25%, while quadrupling image production output, In addition, by providing detailed views and all available color options, Sierra Trading Post is offering its online customers an engaging, interactive shopping experience.
